The Greenwood School: The Preeminent Boarding School for Boys with Learning Differences

Greenwood Receives NEASC Reaccreditation

Greenwood recently welcomed a team of independent school administrators and teachers to campus as part of our participation in the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The Commission commended Greenwood for our strong commitment to our mission, for meeting the individual needs of our students, and for the professional development of our faculty.

In preparation for this campus visit, with the help of our parents, trustees, and alumni, the Greenwood administration, faculty and staff participated in a thorough self-examination process. This collaborative self-study presented a unique learning opportunity for all involved. The result of our self-study was a comprehensive 151-page document that communicates our philosophy, our implementation of this philosophy, program strengths, and areas in which we can improve. The reaccreditation process provided an invaluable opportunity for us to take a critical look, from multiple perspectives, at everything we do at The Greenwood School. As a result, we are clearer about our strengths, and we have implemented action plans that will help us more effectively meet our mission of creating the best environment possible to empower students with language-based learning challenges with the skills and strategies to reach their outstanding academic, social, and creative potentials. We have undoubtedly emerged from this formal self-reflection and reaccreditation process as a stronger school and community.

I am pleased to report that Greenwood earned the highest level of accreditation from the Commission of Independent Schools. The Commission commended Greenwood for our strong commitment to our mission, for meeting the individual needs of our students, and for the professional development of our faculty. After thoroughly reviewing our self-study and visiting campus to see Greenwood in action, the seven member visiting committee recommended that Greenwood continue to build financial stability to ensure the long-term health of the institution; that we continue creating effective ways to train administrators, faculty and staff in the Greenwood approach; and that we continue to increase our visibility through alumni, development, and marketing efforts. The visiting committee commended Greenwood for consistently using its mission to guide the school; for the expertise, dedication and competency of the administration, faculty and staff; for the collaborative nature of the Greenwood community; for the intentional evidence-based design of a supportive learning community; and for the students’ self-awareness and commitment to their work at the school.

It is with great pride that I share the Commission of Independent School’s findings. All of us at Greenwood look forward to the next ten years and to incorporating the insights that resulted from this reaccreditation process. I enthusiastically invite you to visit our campus, meet our talented faculty and students, and see our community in action to more deeply understand the power of The Greenwood Experience.
